Creativity was in full bloom at Silvergate San Marcos as residents and prospective residents of the area’s premier retirement community gathered for an engaging and artful “Paint, Sip & Savor” event today from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Designed to spark imagination and foster meaningful connection, the interactive experience brought seniors together for a memorable blend of artistry, socializing and culinary enjoyment.
Attendees were invited to step outside their daily routines and explore their creative side in a welcoming, working studio environment. Guided by a professional instructor as part of an “Art & Wellness for Seniors” program, the interactive art class was presented in partnership with the Oceanside Museum of Art. Participants created their own original “teeny tiny” masterpieces -- each a unique expression of personal creativity. Guests had the option to take their artwork home or donate it to support the museum’s annual Teeny Tiny Art Sale, benefiting youth art education programs.
Adding to the vibrant atmosphere, guests enjoyed a selection of wine and hors d’oeuvres while working their canvasses, creating a relaxed, social setting that encouraged lively conversation and authentic connection. The event also offered attendees the opportunity to tour Silvergate San Marcos’ beautifully appointed model apartment homes and experience firsthand the community’s engaging lifestyle.
For many in attendance, the event was a refreshing reminder of the joy that comes from trying something new. “I haven’t picked up a paintbrush in years, but this experience made it so easy and enjoyable,” said Karen Pye, a Silvergate resident who has lived at the community for more than a year. “It wasn’t just about the art—it was about laughing, connecting with others, and feeling inspired. That’s what makes living here so special.”
Prospective residents were equally impressed by the welcoming atmosphere and vibrant programming. “I’ve told my kids that I would gladly come to Silvergate to do the arts and do the crafts and take the classes and go all of the places,” shared Elaine Papish, who currently lives in San Marcos with her husband Charles who also attended the event. “There’s an energy here that feels uplifting and genuine. You can tell people are truly enjoying life and staying engaged. Why wouldn’t you choose to come here as a senior, rather than staying at home alone?”
