Silvergate Retirement Residence is celebrating a successful organization-wide fundraising campaign that resulted in a $32,225 donation to Alzheimer's San Diego. The fundraising efforts brought residents, families and team members together around a shared commitment to individuals and families affected by Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. The campaign culminated in the 2026 Walk4ALZ on Saturday, October 17, at Balboa Park, where Team Silvergate joined fellow participants in support of Alzheimer's San Diego's local education, advocacy, care coordination, support services and research programs.

Bringing the Silvergate Family Together

Across Silvergate's retirement communities, residents, families and team members embraced the campaign theme, Make Every Step Matter, through a series of creative fundraising events and activities throughout August and September. From community bake sales and bingo events to resident art sales, ice cream socials and family-friendly fundraisers, each effort reflected the generosity, compassion and sense of purpose that define the Silvergate family.

“It was great to see everyone choose their own way to support the fundraising, whether they baked something, joined a game, bought a piece of resident art or simply encouraged a friend to participate,” said Mary Kay Vesey a resident of Silvergate Rancho Bernardo since it opened in 2020, who helped organize the fundraising efforts at the community. “Every little effort added up, and it felt good to know we were doing something meaningful together.”

A Collective Effort Raises $32,225 for Alzheimer's San Diego

Together, Silvergate’s three senior living communities raised $22,225 through their fundraising efforts. AmeriCare Health & Retirement, Inc., the parent company of Silvergate Retirement Residence, added a $10,000 corporate match contribution after the communities collectively surpassed the $10,000 fundraising threshold established for the match. This brought the total donation to $32,225 in support of Alzheimer's San Diego and the individuals and families it serves throughout the region.

"Our mission at Silvergate is to 'Make Every Day Matter,' and throughout this campaign we've extended that idea to 'Make Every Step Matter.’ Our team members hosted all kinds of creative fundraising events, and our residents, their families and the local community really showed up to participate," said Greg Petree, President of AmeriCare Health & Retirement, Inc. "Seeing our three communities come together around such an important cause is a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish when we share a common purpose."

Making a Difference for San Diego Families Affected by Alzheimer's

The campaign's success also reflects the deeply personal connection many Silvergate residents and families have to Alzheimer's disease and dementia. For those who have experienced the effects of memory loss firsthand, supporting individuals living with these conditions and the people who care for them is more than a charitable effort — it is a way to make a difference for others facing similar challenges.

Eugenia Welch, President and CEO of Alzheimer's San Diego, expressed her gratitude for the collective effort and the enthusiasm demonstrated across Silvergate's communities.

"I am genuinely moved by what the Silvergate communities have accomplished, but what strikes me even more is the spirit behind it. The enthusiasm and heart that each community of residents, families, and team members has poured into this effort is exactly what Walk4ALZ is all about. We are so grateful to have Silvergate walking alongside us. 'Make Every Step Matter' is a beautiful extension of Silvergate's mission, and I hope everyone knows how much every step — and every dollar — truly does matter to the individuals and families we serve every day," said Welch.

“Being at Balboa Park with the entire Silvergate team and seeing so many people come together for the same cause was really moving,” said Jessica Swaaley, Executive Director for Silvergate Rancho Bernardo, who participated in the Walk4ALZ event in Balboa Park. “This event reminds us that families dealing with Alzheimer’s aren’t alone, and that the money we raised can make a real difference right here in San Diego.”
