Sights, Sounds and Tastes of Polynesia Found at Silvergate Retirement
San Marcos community hosts annual South Pacific Luau featuring authentic Polynesian dinner and dance show.
San Marcos, CA – Silvergate Retirement Residences, a top-rated retirement and assisted living community in San Diego County, hosted its annual South Pacific Luau for residents and guests last week. The popular event included a Polynesian-inspired dinner, as well as an impressive spread of island-style desserts and drinks, like Mai Tai’s and molten chocolate lava cake. After dinner, guests were treated to an authentic Polynesian music and dance performance by local group Kailani’s Wahines. The event took place on the evening of Wednesday, August 14th.
One of the most popular events at Silvergate Retirement, the annual South Pacific Luau started off with a gourmet dinner prepared by Executive Chef Clarice Randall, which included coconut shrimp, mahi-mahi topped with mango salsa, barbeque short ribs, and fresh greens. After dinner, Kailani’s Wahines musicians and dancers took the stage, performing a number of traditional Hula, Tahitian and Maori dances. Some of the audience’s favorite performances included the “Hawaiian Wedding Song” Hula and the Samoan Fire Knife Dance.
“It was a wonderful show!” stated Silvergate guest Frances Harmon. “It was really better than the shows I’ve seen in Hawaii. I’m really impressed.”
Exciting events like the South Pacific Luau are just one of many different activities planned by the Silvergate staff to encourage residents to continue to lead active, social lifestyles without the burden of executing events on their own.
“I love this party and it’s one I didn’t have to plan,” explains Silvergate resident Florence Segien. “It’s like living on a cruise ship.”
“The luau is always one of our residents’ favorite events,” stated Melba Dunn, Silvergate San Marcos Administrator. “Our residents are very involved in planning events like this. Their input and involvement really impacts the success of our events. Everyone from residents and their family, to our staff members, enjoy these opportunities to come together and have fun.”
