Thursday, March 5, 2020 – More than 40 local seniors took part in a special Silvergate Fallbrook outing to Coronado in San Diego on Thursday, March 5th for an exclusive excursion that had them voyaging on the sea and trekking over land for the day. The event was one of the many the unique day trips the community regularly showcases on its year-round roster of activities.
The Coronado trip carried Silvergate’s guests across the San Diego bay on the windswept deck of a Broadway Ferry appropriately named the “Silvergate” to arrive at the dock on the opposite side. They then disembarked for an upscale luncheon of Italian cuisine at Il Farnaio restaurant, where they shared in the relatable musings of one-of-a-kind senior Comedian, Anita Milner, who at 83 years young loves to perform for her peers.
“We seniors have all kinds of funny anecdotes to share with one another and wisdom to pass along to the younger generations,” said Milner, who as a long-time practicing attorney, a widow, mother and grandmother has seen her share of ups and downs in her 83 years of life. “Aging gives you so much to be grateful for and so much to laugh about. There’s no reason to shrivel up and waste away as you grow old. Your perspective on what makes life enjoyable can get better and better with every decade that passes.”
Embracing each moment and making every day matter are long-time mantras at Silvergate Fallbrook. Seniors are able to participate regularly in a variety of activities at the community, where musicians, dance troupes and entertainers often come to perform for residents. While many events take place on site, a number of excursions and day trips are hosted outside the community, like trips to the Del Mar Races, outings to local wine country and plays at the Old Globe Theater. The dynamic roster of activities, events and out-of-the-area excursions have set the community apart in Fallbrook as the leader in offering engaging programming for seniors.
“I love to see a little something different outside of Fallbrook, which is why I attended Silvergate’s luncheon and comedy show,” said Maggie Donovan, who spends a generous amount of time at home as a caregiver for her husband and is considering the community as her potential future home. “It was fun to get on the ferry, see the sun rippling on the water and then have such a fabulous lunch with all these new people. The comedian was so hip and really made us laugh. I think it’s great that Silvergate arranges the right kinds of trips for folks my age. They make sure we get there and back safely and are sure to have a good time.”
“I’ve been a resident of Fallbrook for more than 40 years and Silvergate has always been so friendly to the seniors in this town, regardless of whether or not they live here,” said Donna Dunkel, who attended the luncheon festivities with the Silvergate group. “This was my first time attending a Silvergate community outing, and it was a wonderful way to spend the day. Everyone was just so friendly.”
