Thursday, March 5, 2020 – More than 40 local seniors took part in a special Silvergate San Marcos outing to Coronado in San Diego on Thursday, March 5th for an exclusive excursion that had them voyaging on the sea and trekking over land for the day. The event was one of the many the unique day trips the community regularly showcases on its year-round roster of activities.
The Coronado trip carried Silvergate’s guests across the San Diego bay on the windswept deck of a Broadway Ferry appropriately named the “Silvergate” to arrive at the dock on the opposite side. They then disembarked for an upscale luncheon of Italian cuisine at Il Farnaio restaurant, where they shared in the relatable musings of one-of-a-kind senior Comedian, Anita Milner, who at 83 years young loves to perform for her peers.
“We seniors have all kinds of funny anecdotes to share with one another and wisdom to pass along to the younger generations,” said Milner, who as a long-time practicing attorney, a widow, mother and grandmother has seen her share of ups and downs in her 83 years of life. “Aging gives you so much to be grateful for and so much to laugh about. There’s no reason to shrivel up and waste away as you grow old. Your perspective on what makes life enjoyable can get better and better with every decade that passes.”
Embracing each moment and making every day matter are long-time mantras at Silvergate San Marcos. Seniors are able to participate regularly in a variety of activities at the community, where musicians, dance troupes and entertainers often come to perform for residents. While many events take place on site, a number of excursions and day trips are hosted outside the community, like trips to the Del Mar Races, outings to local wine country and plays at the Old Globe Theater.
“I just moved into Silvergate and this is my first outing with everyone,” said Merrio Izor, who moved up from La Mesa to be a part of the Silvergate San Marcos community. “My family helped me investigate retirement communities and after we visited Silvergate, they all said…no question…it’s Silvergate. It wasn’t just that they have great events and activities…although that’s a big part it…it was the people. The people are so friendly and dedicated to the residents here. I’m so happy to be here.”
“I haven’t yet decided where I’ll go when I leave my home,” said Delores Kingsman, a longtime resident of Fallbrook who is still weighing her retirement living options. “But I know one thing, of all the places I’ve looked at, Silvergate is just outstanding. These kinds of day trips are exactly the reason I’m considering coming to live here. I want fun things to do with active people who like to get out and make the most of the day. This was certainly a fun thing to go do today….I didn’t have to plan anything, make the arrangements or get myself there. Silvergate just takes care of everything.”
