Silvergate Fallbrook, the region’s most active premier senior living community, was abuzz with excitement last week as residents and guests gathered for a special “Meet The Author” event on Tuesday, August 6th. The event featured distinguished San Diego Union-Tribune columnist and former KPBS Radio Show host, Dr. Richard Lederer. Known for his razor-sharp wit and deep insights into the English language, Dr. Lederer shared stories from his book, The
Gift of Age, captivating the audience with his unique brand of humor and wisdom.
An Afternoon of Wit, Wisdom, and Wordplay
Dr. Lederer, whose storied career includes authoring more than 60 books on language, history, and humor, took the stage to a warm welcome from the Silvergate Fallbrook community. His presentation, a delightful journey through the playful and poignant elements of aging, explored excerpts from his recent work, The Gift of Age. Residents and guests alike were treated to Lederer’s engaging puns and truths on aging, punctuated by the clever wordplay and historical anecdotes that have made him a beloved figure in the literary world.
“Dr. Lederer’s humor was infectious, and his insights into the aging process were both thought-provoking and heartwarming,” said Cathy Alexander, a longtime resident of Silvergate Fallbrook. “It was wonderful to hear him speak about the joys and challenges of growing older in such a lighthearted and uplifting way.”
Lederer’s works include bestsellers like Anguished English, a collection of humorous language bloopers, as well as American Trivia, Amazing Words, Hilarious Humor, and The Big Book of Wordplay Crosswords. His books explore everything from the quirks of the English language to the origins of words, to puns, pets, and American history, making him a versatile and cherished author. During the event, Dr. Lederer wove together examples from his various books, creating a rich tapestry of humor and knowledge that resonated with the audience.
