Silvergate Retirement recently hosted its popular “South Pacific Luau” event earlier this month. The luau – a favorite among residents, their families, and guests – consisted of a traditional “Island-Style” dinner and authentic Polynesian dance show.
The evening began with hors d’oeuvres, including cocktail shrimp, cheese and crackers, and tropical fruit skewers, and specialty cocktails, such as the Blue Hawaiian martini and Paradise Punch cocktail. For dinner, guests enjoyed a full buffet, which included sweet and sour pork, teriyaki chicken, coconut rice, mango salsa, green beans with almonds, and King’s Hawaiian rolls. Following the dinner, guests and residents gathered in the central courtyard for the traditional Polynesian dance show.
The show, performed by Kailani’s Wahines, transported the audience to some of the famous islands in the Pacific with traditional dances from from Hawaii, Tahiti, Samoa and New Zealand.
Silvergate’s annual luau is one of the many fun themed events that residents look forward to every year. They often invite family members and friends to share in the unique social experience.
“Every year our residents make sure we put these kinds of events on the calendar because they absolutely love them,” explained Silvergate Activity Director Lynne Leonard. “Nearly all of our residents come and join in the festivities, and it’s a great opportunity for us to bring something fun and exciting to the community on a regular basis.”
