NOVEMBER 26, 2019
Silvergate Fallbrook — a premier senior living retirement community – celebrates the Thanksgiving holiday with fanfare every year, and this year is no exception. The community launched a “30 Days of Thanks” Challenge at the beginning of November just before the onset of the community’s holiday parties, gatherings and outings.
Silvergate Fallbrook Executive Director, Patty Martinez, invited residents, their family members as well as guests visiting the community to turn their memories of loved ones past and present, their recollections of joyful moments and heartfelt gratitude for each day into written expressions of gratitude.
“I called on everyone associated with our community to join in on a “30 Days of Thanks” Challenge during the month of November,” said Martinez, who has been leading the care team of Silvergate Fallbrook for the last five years. “There is much to be thankful for here at Silvergate Fallbrook and this gives everyone a unique way to express their gratitude. To participate, all anyone has to do is drop by the front desk in the West Building and pick up a Gratitude Card.”
Inspired by a similar activity at a local church, Martinez introduced the “30 Days of Thanks” initiative to seniors at Silvergate to give them an opportunity to share the people, places and things they are grateful for with others in the community. Residents were asked to fill out the Gratitude Cards and post them to the Wall of Thanks in the West Building either hand-signed or anonymously if they wished.
“As we tour prospective residents through our community this month, we’re pointing out the Wall of Thanks to them and talking about how much we treasure this time of year here at Silvergate,” said Helen Gray, Marketing Director for the community. “It’s gratifying to watch people linger at our Wall of Thanks and realize it’s still the simple things in life that we can all be grateful for…like the lyrics to an old song or a special dessert that was just served by the chef in our lovely dining room.”
In light of the positive response the community has already had to this new holiday activity, Silvergate Fallbrook’s staff hopes to carry the new “30 Days of Thanks” Challenge forward on an annual basis. Participation in these types of resident events, according to Martinez, is what makes Silvergate Fallbrook a special place during the holiday season and all year round.
Before Silvergate launched the “30 Days of Thanks” initiative, the community underwent many changes to create a fresh look throughout the community for the holidays, including new “barrel light” fixtures in hallway transition points, new ceiling tiles, new door frames, new chair rails, new carpet and fresh coats of paint to brighten resident gathering areas. Keeping with Silvergate’s commitment to resident satisfaction, new artwork will soon grace the community’s walls, new draperies are being hung, and sophisticated new furniture has been selected for the corner sitting areas.
Great resident programs like the “30 Days of Thanks” Challenge along with community hosted events and outings are among the many reasons why Silvergate Fallbrook has been voted a “Favorite” by readers of the San Diego Union Tribune in their annual Readers Poll for more than 10 years running. This year, Silvergate Retirement Residence & Memory Care communities were honored in both the Retirement/Independent Living Community and the Assisted Living Community categories.
